NEW YORK - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. wants its suppliers to reduce 20 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions by the end of 2015.

The world's largest retailer's push goes beyond its efforts to date to reduce its own emissions by designing more energy-efficient stores and pursuing alternative fuels for its fleet of trucks.

The goal is equivalent to taking 3.8 million cars off the road for a year, the company said

CANTON, Mass. - A Massachusetts prosecutor has ordered an inquest into Amy Bishop's 1986 fatal shooting of her brother, saying there are new questions about whether it was the accident investigators concluded at the time.

The handling of the case has been under renewed scrutiny since Bishop was accused of killing three faculty colleagues in a shooting Feb. 12 at the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

In announcing the inquest Thursday, Norfolk District Attorney William Keating revealed that investigators recently examined a photo taken of Bishop's bedroom after her brother's death and enlarged it. They found a newspaper article that described someone killing a relative with a shotgun and stealing a getaway car from a car dealership.

HONOLULU - Lawmakers in Hawaii have decided not to allow gambling on the state’s sunny isles.

Legislators killed a bill that would have allowed a casino in tourist-filled Waikiki. A second measure allowing gambling on Hawaiian home lands won’t get a vote.

Public testimony on the gambling measures was overwhelmingly negative, leading the House Finance Committee to scuttle the idea Wednesday night.
